Re: Heirloom Seeds
I just ordered a bunch from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. They are kinda pricy but they have a sweet catalogue and many choices.

Is the website for Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. They have seed collections that are separate for northern vs. southern regions of the country. I placed a recent order with them and they were very quick to ship and I was pleased with my order if that helps. |

Thanks for your inquiry. We don't sell our seeds canned or sealed, although our Heirloom package does come in a bucket. For long term storage, the freezer works well, provided the seeds (in their paper envelopes) are in turn placed in plastic bags, glass jars, etc before freezing. When opening your seed-bank to use, remove it from the freezer some hours beforehand, and allow to reach room temperature before opening the container. This will prevent moisture condensing out of the air and into the seeds which would shorten its viable lifespan. |

Re: Heirloom Seeds
R. H. Shumway also has a lot of open-pollinated/heirloom seeds. www.rhshumway.com Not everything they have is OP, many are hybrids. Most say that at the top of the page, but read carefully in the description to make sure you're getting what you want.
You can also check with your local feed and seed store. A lot of seeds today are hybrid, but there are still many that are not. Anything that I can get locally I have found to be much cheaper than the catalog sites, plus you don't have to pay shipping. Seeds can be heavy, and the freight adds up quickly. Your feed/seed dealer can tell you which of their stock is hybrid and which is not. If it is a hybrid it will usually say so. |
